COURSE CURRICULUM

The Economics program at Mount Allison University offers students the opportunity to pursue either a minor or a major, providing a strong foundation in economic theory, quantitative methods, and applied analysis. A minor in Economics requires 24 credits, including 6 credits from introductory courses ECON 1001 and 1011, and 18 additional credits in economics, with at least 6 credits at the 3/4000 level, selected in consultation with the Program Advisor to align with the student’s interests and career goals. The major in Economics is more comprehensive, requiring 60 credits that build a robust understanding of the discipline. Core courses include ECON 1001, 1011, 2001, 2011, 2101, 2111, and 2701, which cover foundational microeconomics, macroeconomics, and policy analysis, along with 3 credits from ECON 1701 and MATH 2311 to enhance analytical skills. The program also includes 3 credits from MATH 1111 or 1151, and 16 credits from complementary courses such as COMM 2101, COMP 1631, MATH 1121, and 2221, ensuring a well-rounded quantitative and analytical background. Additionally, students complete 18 credits in advanced economics at the 3/4000 level and 9 credits from complementary courses chosen with the Program Advisor. This structure equips graduates with critical thinking, problem-solving, and analytical skills, preparing them for careers in finance, government, research, and further graduate studies.
