COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) major in Computer Science at Mount Allison University is a 60-credit program designed to provide students with a comprehensive foundation in computing while allowing for interdisciplinary exploration. The program begins with 18 credits from core courses including COMP 1631, 1731, 2211, 2611, 2711, and 2931, which cover essential programming skills, data structures, algorithms, and foundational computational concepts. Students then advance to 12 credits from intermediate-level courses such as COMP 3611, 3911, 4721, and 4911, focusing on specialized areas and more complex computational problem-solving. An additional 3 credits are earned from courses like COMP 3361 and 3971, which further deepen understanding in areas such as software design, systems programming, and applied computational methods. To ensure breadth and academic rigor, students complete 9 credits of Computer Science courses at the 3/4000 level, alongside 9 credits in mathematics courses including MATH 1111, 1151, 1121, 1311, and 2221, providing essential quantitative skills. Finally, 9 credits of complementary courses in Arts and Letters, Humanities, or Social Sciences, chosen in consultation with the Program Advisor, allow students to integrate computing knowledge with broader intellectual perspectives.
