COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Arts (BA) in Cognitive Science at Mount Allison University offers students a 60-credit Major that combines core courses in psychology and computer science with complementary courses in philosophy, providing a comprehensive, interdisciplinary understanding of the mind and its processes. Through psychology courses, students explore cognitive processes, perception, learning, memory, and behavioural neuroscience, gaining insights into the biological and psychological mechanisms underlying human thought and behaviour. Computer science courses, including systems programming and artificial intelligence, develop computational and analytical skills that allow students to model, simulate, and analyze cognitive processes, bridging the gap between theory and practical application. Philosophy courses, such as philosophy of mind and philosophy of science, encourage critical reflection on the nature of consciousness, reasoning, and ethical implications of cognitive research, fostering well-rounded intellectual development. The program emphasizes experiential learning through research opportunities, including summer research projects, directed studies, or assisting faculty in ongoing research, helping students develop independent research skills and hands-on experience in experimental design and data analysis.
