COURSE CURRICULUM

The Classical Studies program at Mount Allison University offers students the opportunity to pursue a Minor or Major with a focus on ancient Greek and Roman civilizations, their languages, literature, history, and cultural contributions. A Minor in Classical Studies requires 24 credits, including 18 credits from Classics, Latin, or Greek courses and 6 credits at the 3000- or 4000-level, allowing students to emphasize areas such as Ancient History, Classical Literature, or Art and Archaeology. A Minor in Greek also requires 24 credits, with 18 credits from Greek courses (GREK 1001, 1101, 2001, 2101, and a 3000-level Greek course) and 6 additional credits from Greek, Latin, or Classics. Similarly, a Minor in Latin involves 24 credits, with 18 credits from Latin courses (LATI 1001, 1101, 2001, 2101, and a 3000-level Latin course) and 6 credits from Greek, Latin, or Classics. The Major in Classical Studies is 60 credits, beginning with 6 credits in introductory Latin, Greek, or Humanities 1600-level courses, followed by 36 credits in Classics, Greek, and Latin, including at least 24 credits at the 3/4000 level, which may incorporate philosophy courses such as PHIL 3000 or 3011. The program also requires 18 credits of complementary courses in Arts and Letters or Humanities, chosen in consultation with the Program Advisor, allowing students to tailor their studies while developing a comprehensive understanding of classical civilizations.
