Mohawk College of Applied Arts and Technology is a public college located in Hamilton, Ontario, Canada, established in 1966. It operates five main campuses: the Fennell Campus on Hamilton Mountain, the Marshall School of Skilled Trades and Apprenticeship in Stoney Creek, the Mohawk-McMaster Institute for Applied Health Sciences at McMaster University, the Centre for Aviation Technology Campus, and a Mississauga campus in partnership with triOS College. The college offers over 130 post-secondary and apprenticeship programs. As of 2014, it had more than 1,000 faculty, 12,500 full-time students, 4,000 apprentices, 46,000 continuing education registrants, and 1,800 international students. Since its founding, over 115,000 students have graduated from Mohawk. In 2024, the college introduced a layoff plan due to a decline in international student enrollment.Founded during the formation of Ontario’s college system in 1966 and opening in 1967, Mohawk was part of a provincial strategy to provide career-focused diploma, advanced diploma, certificate, and continuing education programs. The college has earned multiple accolades, including three national Yves Landry Foundation awards for innovation in manufacturing and apprenticeship programs. Its advertising students have won more than 30 Canadian Marketing Association awards, with consistent top rankings in the student creative category.Mohawk College also honors outstanding alumni through its annual Alumni of Distinction Awards and nominations for Ontario Premier’s Awards. Notable recognitions include the 2007 Distinguished Service Award to former Vice President Academic Rosemary Knechtel and YWCA Hamilton Women of Distinction Awards in 2008 to ECE graduate Debbie Crickmore and professor Karyn Callaghan. The journalism and television programs have also received industry awards, reflecting the college’s strength in media education.
