COURSE CURRICULUM

The Practical Nurse program spans two years, structured to provide a comprehensive foundation in nursing theory, clinical skills, and health care knowledge. In the first semester of the first year, students study Anatomy and Physiology for Health Care Professionals (BIOL 152), Nursing Theory I & Nursing Science Lab I (PRNU 156), Growth and Development for Practical Nurses (PSYC 153), Introductory Sociology (SOCI 201), and a 200-level English course (ENGL 2XX). The second semester advances with Pathophysiology (PHSL 200), Clinical Experience I in Continuing Care (PRNU 158), Adult Health Assessment Theory and Lab (PRNU 160), Applied Pharmacology & Medication Administration Lab (PRNU 162), and Nursing Theory II & Nursing Science Lab II (PRNU 166). Semester three focuses on Clinical Experience II, covering Continuing and Acute Care (PRNU 168). In the second year, the fourth semester includes Nursing Theory III & Nursing Science Lab III (PRNU 200), Maternal & Newborn Care and Lab (PRNU 201), Mental Health and Addiction (PRNU 203), Clinical Experience III in Acute Care (PRNU 204), and Pediatric Nursing (PRNU 205). The final semester emphasizes the transition to a practical nursing graduate with Transition to Practical Nursing Graduate (PRNU 208), Community Health Theory and Lab (PRNU 209), and the Final Practicum (PRNU 215), providing hands-on experience essential for professional practice. This curriculum blends theory, lab work, and clinical placements to prepare students for the multifaceted responsibilities of a Licensed Practical Nurse, equipping graduates with the knowledge and practical skills needed to deliver safe, effective, and compassionate care in diverse health care environments.
