COURSE CURRICULUM

The Early Learning and Child Care diploma program is structured over two years, providing a comprehensive combination of theoretical knowledge and practical experience. In the first semester of year one, students engage in courses such as Learning through Play I, Child Development I, Interpersonal Relations, Health, Safety and Nutrition, and Fundamentals of Writing and Speech, alongside their first practicum to gain hands-on experience. The second semester builds on this foundation with courses like Introduction to Early Learning and Child Care, Learning through Play II, Child Development II, Language and Literacy, and Child Guidance, supported by a second practicum to deepen practical skills. Moving into the second year, semester three includes Fine Arts, Ecology of the Family, Outdoor Pedagogy in Early Learning, Music & Movement, and the third practicum, which continues to emphasize practical application in early learning settings. In the final semester, students study STEM with Young Children, Infant and Toddler Care, Professional Practice, and Inclusive Care and Education, along with a fourth practicum that rounds out their field experience. This program structure ensures that graduates develop a well-rounded skill set combining child development theory, creative and outdoor pedagogical approaches, and inclusive care practices, all supported by substantial real-world training. By the end of the diploma, students are fully prepared to provide quality early learning and care, meet professional standards, and contribute effectively in diverse early childhood education environments.
