COURSE CURRICULUM

The Business Administration diploma program at Medicine Hat College begins with a common first year for all majors, focusing on foundational business knowledge. In the first semester, students complete courses such as Introductory Accounting I (ACCT 111), Communication in the Workplace (COMM 140), Principles of Microeconomics (ECON 201), Management Theory (MGMT 161), and Business Problems Software Applications (MGMT 193). These courses provide a solid base in accounting, communication, economics, management concepts, and practical software skills. The second semester builds on this with Introductory Accounting II (ACCT 113), Advanced Business Communications (COMM 252), Principles of Macroeconomics (ECON 203), Human Resources Management (MGMT 243), and Marketing (MKTG 171), further strengthening students’ understanding of accounting, communication, economic principles, people management, and marketing. In the second year, students specializing in Management take more focused courses beginning with Finance (FINA 255), Organizational Behaviour (MGMT 263), The Entrepreneurial Experience (MGMT 270), Business Statistics I (MGMT 284), and a business elective in semester three. These courses enhance financial knowledge, explore workplace behavior, entrepreneurship, data analysis, and allow exploration of other business topics. Semester four includes Human Relations in the Workplace (COMM 253), Leadership Development (MGMT 267), Business Integration (MGMT 268), Business Law (MGMT 395), and another business elective. These courses develop interpersonal skills, leadership abilities, strategic business understanding, and legal awareness relevant to managing organizations. This structured program equips students with a well-rounded skill set for entry-level management roles and lays the groundwork for further academic or professional advancement.
