COURSE CURRICULUM

The Business Administration diploma program at Medicine Hat College begins with a common first year where students build a foundation in core business disciplines. In the first semester, students take courses such as Introductory Accounting I (ACCT 111), Communication in the Workplace (COMM 140), Principles of Microeconomics (ECON 201), Management Theory (MGMT 161), and Business Problems Software Applications (MGMT 193), which together develop accounting basics, communication skills, economic understanding, management principles, and practical software knowledge. The second semester continues this foundation with Introductory Accounting II (ACCT 113), Advanced Business Communications (COMM 252), Principles of Macroeconomics (ECON 203), Human Resources Management (MGMT 243), and Marketing (MKTG 171), preparing students with further skills in accounting, business communication, economic theory, people management, and marketing fundamentals. In the second year, students focusing on the Accounting major take specialized courses beginning with Intermediate Accounting I (ACCT 211), Advanced Computerized Accounting (ACCT 276), Organizational Behaviour (MGMT 263), Business Statistics I (MGMT 284), and Business Law (MGMT 395) in semester three. These courses deepen their accounting knowledge, enhance technological skills, introduce the study of behavior within organizations, build statistical analysis capabilities, and provide an understanding of legal issues in business. Semester four further advances their accounting expertise through Intermediate Accounting II (ACCT 213) and Managerial Accounting (ACCT 215), while also incorporating Finance (FINA 255), Business Integration (MGMT 268), and Business Statistics II (MGMT 285).
