COURSE CURRICULUM

The Built Environment Engineering Technology (BEET) program at Medicine Hat College spans two years and integrates mechanical, civil, and building design technologies to prepare students for careers in engineering and design. In Year One, Term 1, students begin with CADD 101 Drafting I, CADD 121 and 122 CADD Applications I and II, CADD 172 Sustainability & Systems Thinking I, CADD 174 CADD Labs, and Math 150 Technical Math, building foundational skills in drafting, computer-aided design, and applied mathematics. In Term 2, students continue developing their technical capabilities through CADD 102 Drafting II, CADD 132 Mechanical Design I with a focus on applied physics, CADD 151 Technical Communications, CADD 161 Civil Design I exploring civil design fundamentals, CADD 173 Construction Methods, and CADD 182 Building Design I covering building systems. In Year Two, Term 3, the curriculum shifts toward more advanced applications, including BEET 201 Digital Design/Presentation, BEET 231 Mechanical Design II, BEET 261 Civil Design II, BEET 271 Design Strategies, and BEET 281 Building Design II, allowing students to begin integrating their knowledge across disciplines. In the final term, students take BEET 232 Mechanical Design III, BEET 242 Piping & Control Systems, BEET 262 Civil Design III, BEET 282 Building Design III, and BEET 272 Capstone, a comprehensive project that brings together all aspects of their learning. The program emphasizes research, design, construction, and testing, with a strong focus on sustainable practices and the use of modern tools such as 3D modeling, scanning, and printing. Upon completion, graduates are equipped with a well-rounded technical education and can pursue engineering technician roles in multiple industries. They are also eligible to apply for membership in the Association of Science and Engineering Technology Professionals of Alberta (ASET), helping establish their credentials in the professional field.
