COURSE CURRICULUM

The Aviation Management Certificate program at Medicine Hat College spans two years and provides students with a comprehensive academic foundation to complement flight training and prepare them for diverse roles in the aviation industry. In the first year, students begin in the fall semester with COMM 140 - Communication in the Workplace, GEOG 201 - The Physical Environment, and MATH 150 - Technical Math, courses designed to enhance professional communication skills, geographic awareness, and mathematical aptitude relevant to aviation operations. In the winter semester, students take KNES 247 - Introduction to Wellness, Fitness and Nutrition, which emphasizes personal well-being—crucial for those pursuing a physically and mentally demanding aviation career—and MICO 191 - Introduction to Microcomputers, equipping them with essential computer skills for modern cockpit and ground operations. The second year builds on this foundation with more aviation-specific content. In the fall semester, students study AMET 200 - Advanced Meteorology to understand complex weather systems critical to flight safety, and MGMT 161 - Management Theory to gain leadership and organizational knowledge applicable in aviation businesses and airport operations. The final winter semester includes ADAE 200 - Advanced Aeronautics, which delves into the principles of flight and aircraft performance; AMET 201 - Aircraft Engineering & Systems, offering an overview of key aircraft technologies; and COMM 252 - Advanced Business Communications, which hones professional written and verbal communication skills for high-stakes aviation contexts.
