COURSE CURRICULUM

The Early Learning and Child Care certificate program is designed to equip students with the essential knowledge and skills needed to work effectively as early childhood educators. In the first semester, students take courses such as Learning through Play I, which focuses on the importance of play in child development, and Child Development I, which introduces foundational concepts in growth and development. Practicum I provides valuable hands-on experience, allowing students to apply their learning in real early learning environments. Additional courses like Interpersonal Relations and Health, Safety and Nutrition prepare students to support children’s well-being and foster positive relationships. Fundamentals of Writing and Speech develops communication skills necessary for professional practice. In the second semester, students build on their initial knowledge with courses like Introduction to Early Learning and Child Care, Learning through Play II, and Child Development II, which deepen understanding of child-centered education and development across different stages. Practicum II continues to offer practical experience, reinforcing skills in real-world settings. Language and Literacy explores strategies to support children’s communication and emergent literacy, while Child Guidance focuses on positive behavior management and developmental approaches to supporting children’s social-emotional growth. Together, these courses blend theory and practice, preparing students to deliver high-quality, responsive care and education to young children. This well-rounded program emphasizes reflective practice and professionalism, ensuring graduates are ready to contribute meaningfully to early learning environments and support the growth and development of children and families.
