COURSE CURRICULUM

Computer Aided Drafting and Design (CADD) certificate program at Medicine Hat College is structured to provide students with a solid foundation in drafting principles, design applications, and technical communication, while integrating sustainability and systems thinking into the curriculum. In the Fall semester, students begin with CADD 101 - Drafting I, which introduces the fundamentals of manual and computer-aided drafting. They also take CADD 121 and CADD 122 - CADD Applications I & II, focusing on industry-standard software and practical application of drafting skills. CADD 172 - Sustainability & Systems Thinking I emphasizes environmentally responsible design, while CADD 174 - CADD Labs allows students to apply their knowledge in hands-on lab settings. MATH 150 - Technical Math supports design calculations and measurements necessary for accurate drafting. In the Winter semester, students advance to CADD 102 - Drafting II, building on previous skills with more complex drawing techniques. CADD 132 - Mechanical Design I - Applied Physics introduces basic physics concepts relevant to mechanical drafting. CADD 151 - Technical Communications helps students develop clear and professional documentation and communication skills. CADD 161 - Civil Design I covers the fundamentals of civil drafting, including land development and infrastructure layouts. CADD 173 - Construction Methods familiarizes students with common construction practices and materials, essential for accurate and realistic designs. Finally, CADD 182 - Building Design I - Building Systems explores architectural drafting and introduces building system components such as HVAC, electrical, and plumbing. Throughout the year, students benefit from an integrated approach that combines theory with practical application, ensuring they are well-prepared for diverse entry-level roles in drafting and design fields. The program's multidisciplinary nature enables students to explore mechanical, civil, and architectural design, setting the stage for specialization or further education in the future.
