COURSE CURRICULUM

The Art and Design program’s curriculum is structured to provide a comprehensive foundation in both traditional and contemporary visual practices while integrating professional experience. In the first year, students focus on fundamental skills, including Drawing I and II, 2D and 3D Fundamentals, Digital Fundamentals, and Typography I, while also taking introductory art history courses such as World Art Before 1300 CE or Introduction to Canadian Art, and developing communication skills through English courses. Film studies are also introduced to broaden visual literacy. The second year emphasizes graphic design and print production, with courses such as Graphic Design I and II, Print Production, and Design History, complemented by studio electives and preparation for professional practice through Portfolio and Work Term Preparation. In Term 5, students engage in Applied Art and Design Work Term I, gaining practical industry experience. The third year advances applied design skills through Applied Art and Design I and II, Special Projects and Exhibitions, and further studio electives, while offering options in entrepreneurship, marketing, or brand intelligence to strengthen professional readiness. The program concludes with Applied Art and Design Work Term II, providing hands-on, workplace-based learning. This progression ensures students graduate with technical mastery, creative versatility, professional experience, and a strong portfolio, equipping them for careers in graphic design, digital media, advertising, illustration, and other creative industries.
