COURSE CURRICULUM

The Travel and Tourism diploma at MacEwan College requires the completion of 60 credits, typically spread across 20 courses, designed to provide both foundational knowledge and practical skills essential for the travel industry. Students begin with core communication and business courses such as first-year writing, analysis and argument, and business communication, complemented by computing skills to support industry operations. Early travel-focused courses introduce students to the fundamentals of the field, including airline fares, scheduling concepts, domestic and international travel, travel products and services, and destinations across multiple regions. Students gain expertise in computerized reservations, selling and marketing travel, travel accounting, and understanding tourism industry suppliers. Advanced courses build on this foundation with topics such as international air travel, cruise markets, and integrated destination knowledge, culminating in a practicum that provides hands-on, real-world experience. The curriculum also allows for one elective course, either from international business or another subject, giving students flexibility to broaden their perspective. Together, these courses equip graduates with a comprehensive understanding of travel operations, customer service, marketing, and industry technology, preparing them to navigate the dynamic and fast-paced travel and tourism sector with professionalism, adaptability, and confidence, ready to enter a career in airlines, tour operations, hospitality, or travel consultancy.
