COURSE CURRICULUM

The Police Studies diploma is a comprehensive two-year program designed to equip students with the knowledge, skills, and practical experience necessary for a career in policing and public safety. In the first year, students build a strong foundation in law, criminal investigations, and policing in Canada, while developing essential interpersonal and communication skills through courses in psychology, sociology, and university-level writing. Core courses such as criminal law, legal evidence in investigations, and public safety reporting provide students with an understanding of legal frameworks, investigative procedures, and professional documentation standards. In the second year, students expand their expertise with advanced topics including forensic science, investigative interviewing, cybersecurity, and selected topics in policing and public safety. Leadership, ethics, and professionalism are emphasized, ensuring graduates are prepared to make sound decisions and act responsibly in high-pressure situations. Students also explore mental health, resiliency, multiculturalism, and diversity in public safety, preparing them to work effectively with diverse communities and in complex environments. A key component of the program is the field placement, which provides hands-on experience in policing or public safety settings, allowing students to apply classroom knowledge in real-world scenarios, develop situational awareness, and strengthen analytical, technical, and interpersonal skills. By completing this 60-credit diploma, graduates are prepared to serve their communities, pursue further education, or advance in law enforcement careers.
