COURSE CURRICULUM

The Criminal Justice and Security diploma requires the completion of 60 credits over two years, combining foundational knowledge, practical skills, and experiential learning to prepare students for careers in investigation and public or private security. In the first year, students build essential skills in communication, law, and public safety, taking courses such as Interpersonal Communication, Foundations of Canadian Law and Justice, Public Safety Reporting and Communications, Investigative Law, Legal Evidence in Investigations, Security and Risk Management, and Investigations I. Foundational courses in psychology and sociology provide insight into human behavior and social dynamics, while university-level English (including WRIT 101) develops critical reading and writing skills. In the second year, students expand their expertise with advanced courses in Mental Health and Resiliency in Public Safety, Leadership, Ethics and Professionalism, Multiculturalism and Diversity in Public Safety, Investigative Interviewing, Surveillance and Society, Selected Topics in Investigations, Cybersecurity and Digital Investigations, and Emergency Management. A key component is the Field Placement, where students apply classroom knowledge in professional investigative and security settings, gaining practical experience and professional judgment. Courses in Criminology and other applied topics prepare students to analyze crime, evaluate security risks, and respond to complex situations effectively. Upon completion, graduates possess the analytical, technical, and ethical competencies necessary for diverse careers in law enforcement, corporate security, digital investigations, and related fields.
