COURSE CURRICULUM

The Massage Therapy diploma at MacEwan University requires the completion of 70 credits over two years, combining foundational knowledge, technical skills, and clinical practice to prepare students for professional work in therapeutic and healthcare settings. In the first year, students develop essential knowledge in human anatomy, physiology, and body movement through courses such as Human Anatomy I and II, Physiology I and II, and Body Movements, while building practical skills in Techniques I, II, and III, and learning to develop therapeutic relationships and conduct client assessments. Clinical experience begins early with Clinical Practicum I and II, allowing students to apply theoretical knowledge in real-world settings. In the second year, students advance their technical expertise with Techniques IV, V, and VI, and deepen their understanding of assessment, treatments, and planning through courses such as Assessment for Massage Therapists II, Treatments and Planning I and II, and Sport Massage. Specialized knowledge is gained in Massage Therapy for Special Populations I and II, while professional skills are enhanced through Practice Management for Healthcare Professionals and Research Literacy for Massage Therapists. Clinical practicums III, IV, and V provide extensive hands-on experience, solidifying students’ ability to deliver safe, effective, and individualized care. By program completion, graduates are equipped with the clinical competence, critical thinking, and professional readiness required to succeed as licensed massage therapists.
