COURSE CURRICULUM

The Emergency Communications and Response program equips students with the skills and knowledge necessary to excel as emergency communications officers, who serve as a vital link between the public and first responders. The curriculum combines theoretical understanding with practical, hands-on training, preparing students to assess and prioritize emergency calls, operate advanced radio and communication systems, and coordinate responses under high-pressure conditions. Courses such as Call Processing and Radio Communications, Emergency Communications I and II, and Field Placement provide real-world experience and the opportunity to apply learned skills in simulated and supervised environments. Additional coursework in Interpersonal Communication, Foundations of Canadian Law and Justice, Mental Health and Resiliency in Public Safety, and Introductory Psychology supports the development of critical thinking, effective communication, and emotional resilience, which are essential for managing stressful and emotionally charged situations. Through this comprehensive program, students learn to make sound decisions, remain composed under pressure, and provide accurate, timely information that can save lives.
