COURSE CURRICULUM

The Office Assistant program with a Medical major requires completion of a total of 45 credits, combining core administrative courses with specialized medical courses to prepare students for a career in health care administration. Core courses cover essential business and office skills, including office procedures, technology applications, business communication, business math, bookkeeping and accounting, and professional writing, ensuring students have a strong foundation in general administrative practices. In addition, students participate in a field placement, providing hands-on experience to apply classroom knowledge in real-world settings. The Medical major courses focus on health care-specific skills and knowledge, including medical office procedures, medical terminology, and advanced clinical office practices. Through sequential courses such as Medical Office Procedures I, II, and III, and Medical Terminology I and II, students gain the technical expertise required to accurately manage patient records, coordinate appointments, support clinical staff, and maintain health and safety standards. By combining administrative proficiency with medical office competencies, graduates are equipped to work efficiently in hospitals, clinics, and other health care environments, contributing to both patient care and organizational operations. This integrated program ensures students develop practical skills, professional communication abilities, and confidence to succeed in the dynamic medical office field.
