COURSE CURRICULUM

The Educational Assistant program requires the completion of 30 credits designed to prepare students for effective classroom support roles. Core courses provide a strong theoretical and practical foundation in child and adolescent development, inclusive education, and behavioural support strategies. Courses such as TAST 101 Child and Adolescent Development and TAST 102 Understanding and Supporting Student Behaviour explore how to foster positive growth and manage diverse learning needs. TAST 107 and TAST 117 Diverse Learners I and II focus on supporting students with varying abilities, ensuring that educational assistants can adapt to different instructional settings. In TAST 112 Supporting Numeracy and Math and TAST 113 Supporting Language and Literacy, students gain practical skills for enhancing foundational academic learning. TAST 125 Collaborative Team Practice emphasizes effective teamwork with teachers, parents, and professionals, while TAST 128 Educational and Assistive Technology introduces tools that promote accessibility and engagement in the classroom. The program culminates with TAST 135 Practicum, where students apply their learning in a real educational environment, developing hands-on experience in supporting student growth and classroom instruction. A university-level English course, including WRIT 101, ensures strong communication and academic writing skills. Altogether, these courses prepare graduates to be effective, compassionate, and adaptable educational assistants.
