COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Social Work program requires completion of 60 credits in the third and fourth years, providing advanced knowledge and practical experience to prepare students for professional practice. In the third year, students take foundational courses including Indigenous Knowledge: Contributions to Sustainable Social Work Practice, Social Work and Sustainability, Social Work and Intercultural Practice, and Critical Thinking and Social Work Research Methods, alongside a 300-level social work elective and non-social work electives totaling 15 credits. These courses develop critical understanding of social, environmental, and cultural factors in social work practice and strengthen research, analytical, and intercultural competencies. In the fourth year, students focus on leadership and applied practice through courses such as Leadership in Human Service Organizations, the Field Practicum, and the Field Practicum Seminar, which provide extensive hands-on experience in professional settings. Students also complete 400-level social work electives and additional non-social work electives, while selecting one advanced practice course tailored to their area of interest, such as Advanced Social Work Practice with Children and Families, with Indigenous Peoples, with Communities, or in Health and Mental Health Settings. This combination of theoretical learning, practical application, and specialized study equips graduates with the knowledge, skills, and ethical grounding necessary to address complex social issues and make meaningful contributions to diverse communities in a variety of social work contexts.
