COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Science (BSc) Biological Sciences Honours program at MacEwan University is a rigorous, 120-credit degree designed for students seeking advanced study in biology. The program requires completion of 63 to 84 credits in the honours curriculum, with students selecting either the Molecular Cellular Honours Stream or the Ecology and Diversity Honours Stream. Students may also choose to complete a minor, which consists of 18 senior-level credits, within the program requirements. Admission to the Honours program is competitive and requires the completion of at least 45 university-level credits applicable to the program, with a minimum GPA of 3.0, including 24 credits completed within the past 12 months, at least six senior-level biological sciences credits, and a minimum GPA of 3.3 across all junior- and senior-level courses in biological sciences (BICM, BIOL, BOTN, GENE, or ZOOL). Once accepted, students must maintain a minimum overall GPA of 3.0 and continue to achieve a GPA of 3.3 or higher in all junior- and senior-level biological sciences courses within any consecutive 12-month period. Failure to maintain the required Honours GPA results in reversion to the BSc Biological Sciences Major. This program emphasizes independent research, critical thinking, and in-depth exploration of biological principles, preparing students for advanced study or professional careers in the life sciences.
