COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Science in Physical Sciences at MacEwan University offers a comprehensive and interdisciplinary approach, combining chemistry, earth and planetary sciences, and physics to equip students with a broad scientific foundation and practical research skills. Students begin by completing six credits in each of the three disciplines through introductory courses such as Introductory University Chemistry I and II, Introduction to Physical Science, Introduction to Environmental Earth Science, and foundational physics courses in mechanics, electromagnetism, and life sciences applications. As students progress, they select a primary discipline and complete 18 to 24 credits of senior-level courses, and a second primary discipline with an additional 18 to 24 senior-level credits, allowing them to develop deep expertise in two areas. The program also requires six to twelve senior-level credits from the third discipline to maintain a well-rounded scientific perspective. Students have the option of completing a minor, providing further specialization, and can also take additional Arts and Science courses or up to 18 credits in out-of-faculty options to broaden their educational experience. With a total of 120 credits, graduates of the Physical Sciences major gain analytical thinking, hands-on research experience, and interdisciplinary knowledge, preparing them for careers in scientific industries, environmental research, or advanced graduate studies.
