COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Science in Mathematical Sciences major at MacEwan University provides a flexible and rigorous program that allows students to focus on two primary disciplines chosen from mathematics, statistics, and computer science. The program begins with foundational courses such as Elementary Calculus I and II, and Basic Linear Algebra I or Linear Algebra IC, alongside introductory computing courses, either Introduction to Computing I or II, equipping students with essential analytical and computational skills. Students then select 18 to 24 junior- or senior-level credits in each of their two chosen primary disciplines, allowing them to specialize and gain depth in areas such as applied mathematics, geometry, analysis, algebra, discrete mathematics, applied statistics, probability, or computer science topics including database applications, information security, or software development. Additionally, students complete 6 to 12 credits of general requirements in mathematics, statistics, or computer science, further enhancing their quantitative and technical competence. The program also offers flexibility for students to pursue a minor, which must be completed at the senior level, and allows 0 to 18 credits in arts, science, or out-of-faculty electives to broaden learning. With a total of 120 credits, this major develops critical thinking, problem-solving, and technical skills, preparing graduates for a variety of careers that require analytical rigor, data interpretation, and computational expertise.
