COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Science in Computer Science Major at MacEwan University requires students to complete 120 credits of coursework, combining core computer science classes, electives, and optional minors or second majors. Specific major requirements include foundational courses such as Introduction to Computing II, Data Structures and Algorithms, Practical Programming Methodology, Introduction to Software Engineering, and a culminating Final Project or Computer Science Internship, which provide students with both theoretical knowledge and applied experience. Students also choose six credits from courses like Algorithms I, Computer Organization and Architecture, Human-Computer Interaction, Computer Security, or File and Database Management, along with another six credits from advanced electives including Object-Oriented Programming, Non-Procedural Programming, Web Application Development, Real-Time Gaming, Artificial Intelligence, Operating Systems, Networking, Computer Graphics, Computer Systems Security, and Database Management Systems. In addition, students select 15 to 33 credits from junior- or senior-level computer science courses to deepen their expertise. The program allows flexibility through secondary majors or minors, which can be from Arts or Science disciplines, and optional courses totaling up to 18 credits, enabling students to tailor their education to personal interests or career goals.
