COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Public Safety and Justice program is a comprehensive four-year degree designed to prepare students for careers in law enforcement, corrections, emergency management, and other public safety sectors. The program requires 120 credits, beginning with 30 core credits that establish foundational knowledge in communication, writing, interpersonal skills, Canadian law and justice, mental health and resiliency, research statistics and methods, leadership, ethics, and culminate in a two-part capstone project that develops research and analytical skills. Students then complete 60 credits of stream-specific courses, including non-disciplinary requirements such as introductory psychology, political science, or sociology, and disciplinary requirements with 51 credits from CORR, ECRP, PSSC, and PSJS courses aligned to their chosen stream, ensuring a minimum of 12 credits at the 300- or 400-level to provide advanced, specialized knowledge. In addition, students have 30 credits of open electives, which can be used to explore personal interests or complete a minor, enhancing interdisciplinary learning and flexibility. The program integrates theoretical knowledge with practical applications, emphasizing ethical leadership, critical thinking, research proficiency, and mental health awareness, preparing graduates to navigate complex public safety and justice environments and make meaningful contributions to their communities while advancing their professional and academic goals.
