COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Music in Recording & Production includes a comprehensive curriculum designed to build both technical proficiency and musical artistry. In the core year, students complete 36 credits combining music courses and English studies, beginning with ENGL 102 Analysis and Argument along with a choice of ENGL 103, 104, or 105 to develop critical thinking and communication skills. Music courses focus on foundational theory, including MUSC 103 Theory I: Introduction to Music Theory and MUSC 104 Theory II: Harmony, Voice Leading, and Function, alongside ear training courses MUSC 111 and 112 to strengthen aural skills. Students study historical musicology through MUSC 123, and develop applied skills with private lessons on their principal instrument via MUSC 131 and 132, complemented by MUSC 141 and 142 Master Classes. Ensemble participation is emphasized through MUSC 188 and 189 Performance Ensembles, providing practical, collaborative performance experience. Additionally, MUSC 263 Introduction to Music Technology and Production introduces essential skills in recording, production, and studio practices. Beyond the core, the program requires 38 to 74 credits in major-specific courses, 15 to 18 credits in a minor or the option to forgo a minor, 6 to 36 credits of program options, and 12 to 18 credits of electives, culminating in a total of 128 credits that equip students with the knowledge, creativity, and technical expertise to pursue careers in music recording, production, and audio engineering.
