COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Music General major provides a comprehensive curriculum designed to develop versatile and skilled musicians with a deep understanding of both performance and music theory. Students complete foundational courses in musicology, jazz and chromatic harmony, ear training, functional keyboard or accompanying, and applied instrument studies, ensuring proficiency in both technical and theoretical aspects of music. Performance ensemble participation across multiple semesters allows students to gain practical experience in collaborative settings, enhancing their stage presence and ensemble skills. Courses such as Arranging I, Introduction to Music Career Management, Ethnomusicology, History of Electro-Acoustic Music, and Cultural Studies of Music broaden students’ knowledge of music’s cultural, historical, and professional contexts. In addition to the core curriculum, students select 12 to 18 credits of electives, including at least one approved Indigenous Content course, allowing for exploration of personal interests and interdisciplinary study through INTA courses. Minor requirements vary from 15 to 18 credits depending on the chosen minor, such as Music Career Management, Music Education, Music Technology and Production, or Songwriting, with specific electives and program options tailored to each pathway. Program options range from 18 to 36 credits, integrating specialized skills in music technology, career management, or production. Graduates leave the program with a broad, adaptable musical skill set, professional experience, and the creative and theoretical foundation to pursue diverse careers in performance, composition, education, or the music industry.
