COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Music with a Composition major requires students to complete a comprehensive program that combines core music courses, major-specific studies, electives, and English requirements, totaling 128 credits. The core year requirements consist of 36 credits, including foundational courses in music theory, harmony, ear training, and historical musicology, along with performance ensembles and master classes to develop practical skills and stage experience. Students also take courses in music technology and production to enhance their technical proficiency, and complete 6 credits of university-level English to strengthen their analytical and communication skills. Within the major, students are expected to complete between 38 and 74 credits, which cover advanced studies in composition, arranging, orchestration, songwriting, and film scoring, providing the technical and creative expertise needed to succeed as professional composers. Students in the General Major have the option to complete a minor in Music Career Management, Music Education, Music Technology and Production, or Songwriting, totaling 15 to 18 credits, or choose no minor. Additionally, the program includes 6 to 36 credits of program options and 12 to 18 credits of electives, allowing students to tailor their studies to their individual interests and career goals. This combination of rigorous coursework and practical experience equips graduates to create, perform, and produce music across diverse styles and professional contexts.
