COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Early Childhood Curriculum program requires students to complete 124 credits across four years, combining theoretical study, hands-on practice, and professional development to prepare graduates for careers in early childhood education. In the first year, students build foundational knowledge in child development, well-being, communication, and play-based learning, while participating in field placements and integration seminars that connect theory to practice. The second year deepens understanding of curriculum, diversity, inclusion, social-emotional development, and family and community engagement, with additional field placements and seminars fostering applied learning. Students also explore Indigenous perspectives and interpersonal communication, enhancing cultural awareness and professional skills. In the third year, the focus shifts to curriculum design, learning environments, societal perspectives on children, inclusion, equity, and collaborative teamwork, complemented by research practice and university electives to broaden knowledge. The fourth year emphasizes advanced theory, pedagogical leadership, ethical practice, and social activism, with courses in research methods, Indigenous family engagement, and leadership through documentation. Students complete a capstone course integrating research and practice, and a senior internship providing intensive professional experience in policy, research, and practice settings. Across all years, the curriculum balances academic rigor with experiential learning, ensuring graduates are equipped with the knowledge, practical skills, and professional competencies to support young children, families, and communities effectively in diverse early learning environments.
