COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Commerce – Accounting Major at MacEwan University requires students to complete 63 credits, including 27 credits (nine courses) in the major. Core accounting courses include Intermediate Financial Accounting I and II (ACCT 315, 316), Intermediate Management Accounting (ACCT 324), Income Tax Fundamentals (ACCT 328), and Auditing (ACCT 442). Students then select 12 credits (four courses) from a range of advanced and specialized accounting options such as Data Analytics in Accounting (ACCT 330), Government and Not-for-Profit Accounting (ACCT 366), Financial Accounting – Advanced (ACCT 410), Financial Accounting Theory (ACCT 412), Advanced Corporate Taxation (ACCT 428), or Integrated Case Studies in Accounting (ACCT 493), among others. These electives allow students to tailor their studies toward areas of professional interest and career goals. In addition to accounting-focused courses, students complete 6 business electives, 15 non-business electives, and 15 open electives, providing a well-rounded educational experience that integrates both technical and strategic business skills. The program blends theory with practical application, preparing graduates for CPA designation, further studies, or careers in accounting, finance, and management within public practice, industry, government, and not-for-profit organizations.
