COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Arts in Political Science Honours program provides an in-depth academic experience combining foundational studies with advanced research and analysis in political science. Students complete 120 credits, including 36 specific Honours requirements such as core courses in politics, comparative political systems, Canadian government, global politics, policy studies, and political thought. Foundational courses like Introduction to Politics (POLS 101) and Introduction to Global Politics (POLS 264) build essential knowledge, while advanced courses such as Advanced Study in Political Science (POLS 490) and the two-part Honours Thesis (POLS 499A and 499B) develop critical research and writing skills. Students must also complete a research methods course, either Introduction to Qualitative Research Methods (POLS 389) or Empirical Research Methods in Political Science (POLS 399). Beyond core requirements, students select 27 senior-level credits from Political Science (POLS), Anthropology, Economics, and Political Science (AEPS), or Urban and Regional Planning (URBW) courses, ensuring at least 12 POLS credits at the 300- or 400-level and 3 at the 400-level. A maximum of 6 credits may come from AEPS or URBW. The remaining 15 credits are open options, which can include a minor or other Arts, Science, or out-of-faculty courses, allowing flexibility and interdisciplinary exploration.
