COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Arts in Economics Honours program requires the completion of 120 credits, combining core, advanced, and elective coursework to provide a strong foundation in economic theory, analysis, and research. Students begin with introductory courses such as ECON 101 Introduction to Microeconomics and ECON 102 Introduction to Macroeconomics, progressing to intermediate and theoretical studies including ECON 281 and ECON 282 for micro and macroeconomics, and ECON 384 and ECON 385 for advanced theory. Quantitative and analytical skills are developed through ECON 299 Quantitative Methods in Economics and ECON 399 Introductory Econometrics, while the capstone ECON 499 Honours Thesis allows students to conduct independent research under faculty supervision. Students also complete 33 to 42 credits of senior-level electives in economics or related fields such as AEPS or urban studies (URBW), with at least 9 credits at the 400 level to ensure advanced specialization. Options such as ECON 389, ECON 481, and ECON 482 deepen understanding in mathematical, microeconomic, or macroeconomic theory. Additionally, students can pursue minors or elective courses from Arts, Science, or other faculties. This comprehensive program integrates theory, data analysis, and research practice, equipping graduates with the critical thinking and technical expertise required for graduate studies or professional roles in economics and policy.
