COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Arts in Anthropology Honours program requires students to complete 120 credits of non-duplicative coursework, providing both depth and breadth in the study of humanity. The program consists of 30 credits of Specific Honours Requirements, including 6 credits of thesis work, 33 credits of General Honours Requirements, and 57 credits of non-Anthropology options. Core courses include Introduction to Anthropology, Archaeology, Social and Cultural Anthropology, Linguistic Anthropology, and Biological Anthropology, as well as advanced classes such as Ethnographic Research Methods or Archaeological Methods, Anthropological or Archaeological Theory, and the Honours Thesis sequence. Students may take up to 6 credits from AEPS, INDG, or URBW courses to fulfill General Honours Requirements. Admission requires at least 45 university-level credits with a GPA of 3.0 or higher, including six senior-level ANTH credits and a 3.3 GPA across senior-level anthropology courses. Once admitted, students must maintain these GPA standards or risk reversion to the BA Anthropology Major. The program allows the inclusion of a minor, replacing some options credits, and fulfills BA Breadth Requirements. Through rigorous coursework and independent research, the Anthropology Honours program prepares graduates for advanced studies and professional roles requiring critical inquiry, analytical skills, and cultural understanding.
