COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Arts in Political Science Major provides students with a comprehensive understanding of political systems, governance, and global issues through a structured and flexible 120-credit program. Core requirements (30 credits) include foundational courses such as Introduction to Politics (POLS 101), Comparative Political Systems (POLS 200), Canadian National Government I and II (POLS 224 and 225), and Introduction to Global Politics (POLS 264). Students also study the History of Political Thought I and II (POLS 214 and 215), Introduction to Policy Studies (POLS 244), and a research methods course—either Introduction to Qualitative Research Methods (POLS 389) or Empirical Research Methods in Political Science (POLS 399)—culminating with Advanced Study in Political Science (POLS 490). Beyond these, students select 12 to 30 credits from junior- or senior-level POLS, AEPS, or URBW courses, ensuring at least 15 POLS credits at the 300- or 400-level, including 3 at the 400-level, with up to 6 credits allowed from AEPS or URBW. The program also allows flexibility to pursue a secondary major or one or two minors (18–60 credits), complemented by 10–60 option credits from Arts, Science, or other faculties. This structure fosters analytical, research, and communication skills essential for diverse careers in public service, law, policy, and global affairs.
