COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Arts in Anthropology Major requires students to complete 120 credits of non-duplicative coursework, combining in-depth study of anthropology with additional academic exploration through a minor, two minors, or a secondary Arts major. The program consists of 42 to 60 anthropology credits, including core courses such as Introduction to Anthropology, Archaeology, Social and Cultural Anthropology, Linguistic Anthropology, Biological Anthropology, Humans, Cultures, Ecologies, and either Ethnographic Research Methods or Archaeological Method Issues, as well as Anthropological or Archaeological Theory. Of the anthropology credits, a minimum of 36 must be at the senior level, with at least 24 credits at the 300- or 400-level and at least six credits at the 400-level, excluding ANTH 495. Students may also take up to 6 credits from AEPS, INDG, or URBW to fulfill General Major Requirements. In addition to anthropology courses, students complete option courses and fulfill BA Breadth Requirements, with the flexibility for courses to count toward both breadth and major, minor, or option requirements. The program emphasizes critical thinking, research skills, and cultural understanding, preparing graduates for careers in archaeology, forensic science, market research, language revitalization, intercultural education, government, and other fields where analysis of human behavior and social systems is valued, while also providing a foundation for advanced study.
