COURSE CURRICULUM

The Massage Therapy program offers a comprehensive curriculum designed to equip students with the knowledge, skills, and professional competencies required to provide safe, effective, and ethical care. In the first semester, students build a foundation through courses in Anatomy, Physiology, Massage Therapy Assessment and Skills, Professionalism, and Ethical Practice, alongside communication and global changemaker studies. They learn anatomical terminology, explore musculoskeletal structures, and develop fundamental assessment and treatment techniques, emphasizing critical thinking and evidence-based approaches. The second semester continues anatomical studies focusing on the head, neck, and lower limb, while advancing massage therapy techniques, physiology, and professional relationship skills. By the third semester, students delve into care for special populations, remedial exercise, pathophysiology, and treatment planning for postural and musculoskeletal conditions, coupled with hands-on clinical placements to apply their knowledge. The fourth semester addresses complex conditions such as orthopedic and neurological issues, inclusive care for individuals with disabilities and mental health conditions, and community placements that expose students to diverse patient populations. In the fifth semester, students deepen their understanding of neurological conditions, advanced remedial exercises, and participate in community placements focusing on mental health and substance use. The final semester prepares students for professional practice through business management, care for older adults and palliative populations, comprehensive exam preparation, and advanced clinical placements. Throughout the program, students are trained in communication, ethical practice, research literacy, and interprofessional collaboration to ensure holistic, patient-centered care. By integrating theory with extensive practical experience, graduates are well-prepared to meet the diverse needs of clients in clinical and community settings while adhering to the regulatory standards set by the College of Massage Therapists of Ontario.
