COURSE CURRICULUM

The Pharmacy Technician program offers a comprehensive curriculum designed to equip students with the knowledge and skills necessary for a successful career in pharmacy practice. In the first semester, students study body systems and disease states, pharmacology, pharmacy business practices, pharmacy calculations, and pharmacy computer software, alongside courses in college writing and global changemaking, which broaden perspectives on cultural competency, sustainability, and health. Semester two introduces practical skills in community pharmacy through lab work, diversity in healthcare, healthcare legislation, advanced pharmacology, pharmacy calculations, and compounding lab practice, further supported by general education electives. In semester three, students build on their community pharmacy skills with a focus on prescription processing, billing, and injection training. They also explore hospital and long-term care pharmacy practices, institutional pharmacy lab work, and sterile compounding techniques to understand aseptic procedures and sterile product preparation. Semester four deepens understanding of hospital pharmacy practice, emphasizing medication history, safety protocols, antimicrobial stewardship, and emergency procedures. Students also advance in institutional pharmacy lab skills, including inventory management and independent double-checking, essential for hospital settings. Preparation for licensing exams is a key focus, with courses designed to review program content, build problem-solving skills, and simulate exam conditions through multiple-choice and objective structured performance examinations (OSPE). Students complete practical placements in both retail and institutional pharmacy settings, gaining hands-on experience essential for workforce readiness. This structured progression ensures graduates are well-prepared to meet professional standards, deliver high-quality pharmaceutical care, and confidently support pharmacists in diverse healthcare environments.
