COURSE CURRICULUM

The Occupational Therapist Assistant and Physiotherapist Assistant program offers a comprehensive curriculum designed to prepare students for a rewarding career supporting individuals in achieving optimal mobility and daily functioning across diverse populations. In Semester One, foundational courses such as Anatomy & Physiology 1 introduce students to the structure and function of key body systems, while Basic Concepts in Physiotherapy & Occupational Therapy familiarizes them with professional roles and multidisciplinary teamwork. Communication skills are honed through Therapeutic Communication and College Writing Skills, and students begin exploring clinical practice and lifespan development. Semester Two builds on this foundation with Anatomy & Physiology 2 and Clinical Conditions - Musculoskeletal, paired with Musculoskeletal Clinical Skills courses tailored to both occupational therapy and physiotherapy assistants, alongside an introductory clinical placement. The third semester advances students' understanding of neurological conditions and pediatric practice through focused clinical conditions and specialized skills courses, complemented by a four-week clinical placement that emphasizes therapeutic program development and implementation. In the final semester, students engage in advanced clinical skills courses addressing cardiorespiratory conditions and mental health, alongside inclusive programming to foster participation for individuals with diverse abilities. Integrated case studies and simulation exercises deepen clinical reasoning and professional skills, culminating in a final clinical placement that consolidates theory and practice. Throughout the program, students gain hands-on experience in state-of-the-art labs and real-world settings under the supervision of experienced therapists, ensuring they are well-equipped to contribute effectively within multidisciplinary teams.
