COURSE CURRICULUM
The Electrical Techniques and Industrial Automation program offers comprehensive training over four semesters, combining theoretical knowledge with hands-on experience to prepare students for careers in electrical and automation fields. In the first semester, foundational courses such as Basic Electricity introduce students to electrical principles, including DC and AC circuits, while Basic Installation Practices teach wiring systems across residential, commercial, and industrial settings with a focus on safety and quality workmanship. Industrial Control covers motor control circuits using relays and contactors, and Industrial Diagrams & Applications develops skills in interpreting electrical diagrams to build functional circuits. Occupational Health & Safety and Technical Math provide essential safety knowledge and mathematical skills needed in the field. The second semester advances students’ expertise with Advanced Electricity, Canadian Electrical Code applications, Industrial Control Electronics, and Industrial Distribution Systems, alongside a foundational course in Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs). Students also study the Ontario Electrical Safety Code and participate in communications training to enhance workplace skills. Semester three focuses on advanced PLC programming, alternative renewable energy technologies like wind and solar, electrical CAD drafting, fluid power systems, instrumentation theory, and technical math including calculus and statistics. The final semester delves into Advanced Motor Control and introduces Adjustable Speed Drives, Control Systems and Human-Machine Interfacing (HMI), Industrial Communication Networks, production systems management, instrumentation and digital control, and Motion Control involving variable frequency drives and servo systems. Throughout the program, students gain practical experience through labs and projects, ensuring they develop the technical proficiency and problem-solving skills necessary for modern industrial automation environments. General education electives complement technical learning by broadening perspectives, preparing graduates to meet industry demands with professionalism and adaptability.
