COURSE CURRICULUM

The Civil Engineering Technician program offers a comprehensive curriculum designed to prepare students for careers supporting infrastructure projects through a blend of theoretical knowledge and practical skills. In the first semester, students study foundational courses such as Building Methods & Materials, CAD 1 focusing on 2D drafting with AutoCAD, Engineering Applications introducing Microsoft Office for technical use, Geomatics 1 surveying techniques, and Math 1 emphasizing algebra, geometry, and trigonometry relevant to engineering. Semester two builds on these basics with advanced CAD 2 skills, Heavy Construction methods, Highway Technology introducing road design principles, continued Mathematics, Statics for understanding forces on structures, Technical Communications, and a global changemaker course to develop cultural competency. Semester three advances geomatics with surveying for engineering projects, Highway Technology 2 covering road design and operations, Materials Testing labs, Municipal Services design concepts, Strength of Materials, Structural Drafting, and includes general education electives. In semester four, students explore contracts, specifications, and construction estimating; continue Materials Testing; learn Municipal Engineering using Civil 3D software for road and drainage design; study Soil Mechanics to understand soil behavior; Strength of Materials 2 focusing on load effects; and Structures covering load calculations and member sizing using limit state design, alongside general education courses. This well-rounded program equips students with skills in surveying, drafting, materials testing, design, and project estimation, utilizing industry-standard tools and software like AutoCAD Civil 3D, preparing them to assist civil engineers effectively in infrastructure development.
