COURSE CURRICULUM

Child and Youth Care program, students complete WKPL2063 Practicum 3, the final and most comprehensive field placement experience. This capstone practicum allows learners to integrate and apply the full range of knowledge, relational competencies, and therapeutic skills acquired throughout the program. Working under supervision in a specialized setting, students are expected to demonstrate professional conduct, self-awareness, and effective interventions with children, youth, and families. Through active self-reflection and regular feedback from placement supervisors and faculty, students assess their strengths and areas for growth to support their ongoing professional development. This practicum emphasizes leadership, advocacy, collaboration, trauma-informed care, and culturally responsive practice, building on the foundational knowledge gained in earlier semesters. Students are encouraged to set and evaluate personal learning goals, apply evidence-based approaches in real-world situations, and critically analyze their role within interprofessional teams and service systems. By the end of this final placement, learners are expected to demonstrate the core competencies required of entry-to-practice Child and Youth Care Practitioners. This immersive experience ensures graduates are confident and prepared to enter the workforce, having developed practical skills, ethical awareness, and the capacity to build meaningful relationships with young people facing diverse life challenges.
