COURSE CURRICULUM

The Pre-Health Sciences Pathway program includes a comprehensive range of courses designed to build a strong foundation for healthcare studies. In Semester One, students take Biology, which covers the structure, function, and evolution of cells and microbes, emphasizing homeostasis, genetics, and cellular reproduction. Chemistry introduces scientific procedures and explores matter, energy, atomic structure, and chemical bonding, including inorganic compounds and chemical reactions. Introduction to Language Theory and Composition develops writing skills, academic research techniques, and proper citation practices. Mathematics 1 focuses on essential numeracy and algebra skills applied to healthcare scenarios. The PreHealth Science Seminar helps students develop key academic skills such as goal setting, time management, critical thinking, studying strategies, and professional portfolio preparation. Additionally, students select one elective from courses such as Introduction to Physics, which covers Newtonian mechanics, thermodynamics, waves, electricity, and light; Psychology 1, which introduces core psychological principles like motivation, emotion, personality, and abnormal behavior; or Sociology 1, which examines sociological theories related to race, ethnicity, health, aging, social class, and gender. In Semester Two, Advanced Language Theory and Composition enhances critical thinking, thesis development, research, and essay writing skills. The Bio & Chem Health Tech Lab offers practical laboratory experience in chemistry and biology, focusing on safety and efficiency. Human Biology explores microbiology, anatomy, and physiology, preparing students for future healthcare studies. Interpersonal Psychology helps develop self-awareness and communication skills. Organic and Biochemistry advances students’ understanding of organic compounds, homeostasis, nutrition, and biochemical reactions. Statistics for Health Sciences introduces data analysis techniques, focusing on descriptive and inferential statistics applied to healthcare. Together, these courses provide a well-rounded academic and practical foundation to support students in advancing toward careers in nursing, paramedicine, dental health, and other health-related fields.
