The Industrial Maintenance and Advanced Manufacturing program offers a comprehensive curriculum designed to equip students with essential technical skills and industry knowledge across two semesters. In Semester One, students begin with MANU1009 Blueprint Reading 1, learning the theory, standards, and interpretation of mechanical drawings, including orthographic and sectional views, alongside an introduction to computer-aided design (AutoCAD). Complementing this, COMP1017 Computer Applications provides training in Microsoft Office tools such as Outlook, PowerPoint, Word, and Excel, alongside job search skills including résumé and cover letter preparation. The hands-on nature of the program is emphasized in MANU1006 Fluid Power 1, where students explore fluid power control systems with practical labs covering pumps, actuators, and valves. MECH1001 Machine Maintenance 1 introduces inspection and replacement of components like bearings and couplings, while MANU1000 Machine Tools 1 focuses on metal cutting using lathes, milling machines, and grinders, incorporating shop safety. SAFE1001 Occupational Health & Safety 1 familiarizes students with workplace safety standards, including the use of overhead cranes and forklifts. Foundational math skills are developed in MATH1014 Technical Math 1, covering algebra, measurement, and problem-solving. WELD1008 Welding 1 introduces various welding and fabrication techniques including oxy-acetylene cutting and Shielded Metal Arc Welding. In Semester Two, learning builds on these fundamentals with CADD1021 Blueprint Reading & CAD 2, focusing on installation and assembly drawings. ELEC1004 Electrical Fundamentals applies AC theory to motors and control systems, while MANU1008 Fluid Power 2 and MECH1006 Machine Maintenance 2 expand on fluid systems and maintenance for compressors and pumps. MECH1004 Machine Tools 2 advances machining procedures for repair, and MATH1016 Technical Math further develops skills in geometry, trigonometry, and graphical analysis. WELD1009 Welding 2 continues the practical welding applications. Throughout, students engage in GNED1100 Becoming a Global Changemaker, fostering cultural competency, sustainability, and leadership skills essential for effective professional and community engagement. This well-rounded program combines theory and hands-on practice to prepare graduates for careers in industrial maintenance and advanced manufacturing.
