COURSE CURRICULUM

The program’s curriculum is carefully designed to build a strong foundation in electrical principles, industrial control, and professional skills across two semesters. In the first semester, students begin with ELTP1001 Basic Electricity, where they learn fundamental electrical principles including DC circuits, basic AC, and three-phase power, along with essential math concepts. ELTP1010 Basic Installation Practices offers hands-on training in electrical wiring for residential, commercial, and industrial buildings, emphasizing quality workmanship and safety. ELTP1005 Industrial Control introduces students to motor control circuits and common sensing devices used in industrial applications. ELTP1002 Industrial Diagrams & Applications develops skills in interpreting electrical diagrams and building circuits, including extra low-voltage systems such as alarms and communications. Safety is a key focus in SAFE1001 Occupational Health & Safety 1, where students learn industry safety practices and legal responsibilities. MATH1018 Technical Math 1 strengthens the mathematical skills necessary for solving electrical problems. The second semester advances students’ knowledge with ELTP1007 Advanced Electricity, which covers AC systems in detail, including power factor correction and troubleshooting. ELTP2000 Codes & Installation Practices familiarizes students with the Canadian Electrical Code, especially as it applies to industrial and automation systems. COMM1066 Communications-Common Core prepares students for effective workplace communication. ELTP1000 Industrial Control Electronics explores semiconductor devices and their applications in motor control and power supplies. ELTP1012 Industrial Distribution Systems introduces the components of industrial electrical distribution, such as panelboards and circuit breakers. ELTP1006 Programmable Logic Controller Fundamentals provides foundational knowledge of PLC installation, programming, and functions. ELTP1011 The Electrical Safety Code in Ontario focuses exclusively on applying the Ontario Electrical Safety Code through practical exercises. Finally, GNED1100 Becoming a Global Changemaker broadens students’ perspectives on social, environmental, and cultural issues, equipping them with skills to make a meaningful impact in their communities. This comprehensive coursework equips students with both technical expertise and a broader understanding of their role in society.
