COURSE CURRICULUM

The Diploma in Game Design at LaSalle College Vancouver is structured over four quarters, each designed to build essential skills for a career in game design. In the first quarter, students begin with foundational courses including Scripting I, Game Design I, Level Design I, History of Games, and Speech Communications. These courses introduce basic programming concepts, core design principles, and important communication skills. The second quarter advances scripting knowledge with Scripting II, deepens game design understanding in Game Design II, and introduces Mini Games and Prototyping along with Digital Imaging I and Critical Thinking, promoting technical skills and analytical abilities. In the third quarter, students explore Basic 3D Concepts, Game Design for Business, Level Design II, and Game QA and Prototyping, supplemented by a studio elective that allows focus on individual interests or skills. This quarter enhances both creative and business aspects of game design while emphasizing quality assurance. The final quarter focuses on advanced topics such as Narrative Design and Free to Play Game Design, preparing students to meet industry demands. Portfolio I and UI/UX Design courses help students refine their projects and user interface skills, critical for creating engaging game experiences. The inclusion of another studio elective provides further customization and specialization. Throughout the program, students work on real-world projects, collaborating in teams to develop a professional portfolio that showcases their abilities and prepares them for the competitive gaming industry.
