COURSE CURRICULUM

The Diploma in Game Programming at LaSalle College Vancouver is structured over five immersive quarters, combining theoretical knowledge with intensive hands-on practice to prepare students for careers in the game industry. In Quarter 1, students begin with foundational skills in game design I, introduction to computer programming, level design I, and applied mathematics, setting the stage for understanding game mechanics and the logic behind gameplay. Quarter 2 deepens programming knowledge through object-oriented programming in C++ I, paired with mini games and prototyping, and continues development in mathematics with geometry and linear algebra, alongside a study of the history of games, offering critical context for modern game development. In Quarter 3, students expand their software knowledge through digital imaging, object-oriented programming in C++ II, and introduction to C# programming, complemented by statistics to support data-driven game mechanics and system balancing. Quarter 4 introduces advanced development tools and concepts with basic 3D concepts, 2D games programming, and programming for game engines, while also encouraging analytical growth through critical thinking. By Quarter 5, students focus on building a standout professional portfolio in portfolio I, refining algorithmic thinking with algorithms and data patterns, exploring the rapidly growing mobile sector through intro mobile game programming, and rounding out their skillset with a 100-level elective tailored to their interests. This structured, progressive curriculum ensures students graduate with a robust portfolio and the technical and creative skills needed to launch a successful career in game programming.
