COURSE CURRICULUM

The Foundations program at LaSalle College Vancouver is structured over three quarters and offers a comprehensive curriculum designed to build essential artistic and technical skills for students pursuing careers in digital media and visual arts. In Quarter 1, students begin with "Fundamentals of Design," where they are introduced to the basic principles of visual composition and layout. "Colour Theory" explores the psychological and practical applications of color in art and design, while "Drawing & Perspective" focuses on the techniques of rendering accurate, three-dimensional forms on a two-dimensional surface. "Life Drawing I" develops observational skills through studies of the human figure, emphasizing proportion, anatomy, and gesture. In Quarter 2, the program shifts toward digital and conceptual development. "Digital Imaging" introduces students to industry-standard software for creating and manipulating images. "Concept Design and Illustration" encourages students to generate original visual ideas and bring them to life through storytelling and illustration. "Life Drawing II" advances their anatomical drawing skills, and "Sculpture" provides a tactile understanding of form and space in three dimensions. Quarter 3 integrates traditional skills with digital media production. "2D Animation I" teaches the basics of motion and timing in animation, while "Basic 3D Concepts" introduces modeling and spatial design in a virtual environment. "Digital Storyboarding" focuses on visual storytelling and planning for animation and film, and "Compositing I" covers layering visual elements into cohesive scenes. Together, these twelve courses build a solid foundation in both traditional and digital art practices, preparing students for more advanced study or entry-level creative roles.
