COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Design in Fashion Design at LaSalle College Vancouver offers a comprehensive and progressive curriculum that prepares students for the evolving fashion industry through ten intensive quarters of hands-on and theoretical learning. In Quarter 1, students are introduced to the Fashion and Creative Industries, Fashion Illustration, Drafting I, and Sewing I, laying the foundational skills in design and construction. Quarter 2 continues with Textile Science, Digital Applications for Fashion, Drafting and Sewing II, and Rhetoric and Composition, integrating technical and communication skills. In Quarter 3, students delve into Cultural Theory, Fundamentals of Sustainable Design, 3D Exploration Draping, and Concept Development in Fashion, emphasizing sustainability and creative exploration. Quarter 4 includes History of Fashion, Product Development: Ideation, Fashion Marketing, and Women’s Tailoring, combining historical context with real-world applications. In Quarter 5, courses like Textile Manipulation, Globalization and Cultural Competencies, Product Development: Realization, and Research Methodologies build a global and research-oriented perspective. Quarter 6 features a Fashion Design Studio Elective, Computer-aided Drafting, Consumer Behaviour, and Directed Study, integrating creativity with analytical thinking. Quarter 7 prepares students for the workforce with Advanced Textiles and Technologies, Practicum Preparation, another Fashion Design Studio Elective, and Brand Management. Quarter 8 is focused on practical experience with a full Practicum and Menswear design. In Quarter 9, students begin their Capstone Collection I: Ideation, take Entrepreneurship, and a Liberal Studies Elective. Finally, Quarter 10 culminates with Professional Development, Styling and Promotion, and Capstone Collection II: Realization, bringing together all their skills for a final professional portfolio and industry readiness.
